Decked!

Synopsis: On Christmas Eve, Celia’s only child, Kit confesses that she would rather live with her dad and his much younger partner beginning tonight, the couple’s wedding night. Left alone feeling powerless and enraged, Celia turns to alcohol and pills to escape her pain. Then her eccentric sister Louise shows up to help her out of her despair. In a drug-induced state, (is she dead? or just tripping?) Celia wakes up in an alternate dimension where the sisters review her past, present, and potential future. With a nod to the classics, It’s a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Carol, this all-female seriocomic play explores themes of letting go and moving on.

Decked! explores mature themes and is not suitable for audience members under 16. We know this is a difficult time of year for many people; if you are struggling with thoughts of self-harm, please reach out to someone you love or call the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.

$5 Arts for All tickets are available for this production. Contact the box office for more information.

Decked! is presented by arrangement with A3 Artists Agency on behalf of Ginna Hoben. www.a3artistsagency.com

One Act Wonders

‘dentity Crisis by Christopher Durang, directed by Ryan Hull

Recovering from a nervous breakdown, Jane is nursed and nagged by her relentlessly cheerful mother, and confused by her oversexed brother—who keeps changing into her father, her grandfather and her mother’s French lover. Eventually all (including Jane’s psychiatrist, who undergoes a sex change operation and swaps places with his wife) change characters again and become Jane herself—leaving her with no identity at all and pointing up the near impossibility of self-identification in our uncertain times.

'dentity Crisis is presented by arrangement with Dramatists Play Service.

Out at Sea by Slawomir Mrozek, directed by Karen Bain
Three men starving on a life raft must determine which of them is to become dinner for the other two. One is thin, one is medium, and one is fat. After the men employ a hilariously logical series of civil procedures to arrive at a solution, guess which one has to volunteer!

Out at Sea is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals.

Conflict by Wade Bradford, directed by Deborah Jensen

A very amusing explanation of how we crave stories in which the protagonist experiences all kinds of hardship.

Conflict is presented by arrangement with Brooklyn Publishing.

Marjorie Prime

Marjorie Prime by Jordan Harrison, directed by Markus Brown

March 28th - April 12th

It’s the age of artificial intelligence, and 85-year-old Marjorie — a jumble of disparate, fading memories — has a handsome new companion who’s programmed to feed the story of her life back to her. What would we remember, and what would we forget, if given the chance? In this richly spare, wondrous new play, Jordan Harrison explores the mysteries of human identity and the limits — if any — of what technology can replace.

Marjorie Prime is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals.

AGAIN! The Act of Perfection

AGAIN! The Act of Perfection by Marco Davis, directed by Marco Davis

Do you ever get that burning desire? A longing to have wings and soar upon the wind singing

the song of freedom? AGAIN! The Act of Perfection is an autobiographical, one act, one man quasi musical that takes the viewer on a journey, which could be anyone’s journey. Well, anyone that happens to have grown up as a closeted Catholic boy trying to find his place in the world.

Utilizing a Greek chorus representing the various voices of influence along the way, a few backup dancers, and a musician; the script flows and dances as the coming of age story of a young gay man unfolds with the landscape shifting and expanding along the way.

For Peter Pan on Her 70th Birthday

August 1st - 16th

For Peter Pan on Her 70th Birthday by Sarah Ruhl, directed by Deanna Duplechain

When Ann thinks of her father, she immediately remembers playing Peter Pan in her hometown theater in Iowa, particularly when he used to bring her flowers after her performance. Her memory is jogged by the fact that she and her four siblings are in their father’s hospital room during his final moments. His death sparks a conversational wake that includes everything from arguments over politics to when each sibling realized that they grew up. A loving look at a family’s view of death, life and the allure of never growing up.

HOLIDAZED: A Spectravagasm Christmas

HOLIDAZED: A Spectravagasm Christmas by Sam Dinkowitz, directed by Sam Dinkowitz

“That’s what Christmas is all about: showing people you care enough to spend money on them.”

On the surface, Holidazed! is simply a Christmas-themed sketch show- there’s songs and dances and jingling bells and Tiny Tim and Santa. But at its core, Holidazed is a comedic missile of irreverence aimed at the holiday season. The show follows Santa as he quits Christmas and sets out to find the true meaning of celebrating the holidays. Along the way, Holidazed offers a variety of sketches and songs to exemplify the Capitalistic mess that the holidays have become, and reconnect with what it’s really about. “It’s not about spending money…it’s about spending time.”
